Khadro-La (i)

Khadro-La (i)

KHANDRO LA did a talk on this topic: The Method to Cultivate Mental Happiness and I took notes on the way. I hope it offers some light to you just as these words did to me.

Countless bodhisattvas have come to teach and some are amongst you

All beings want to be free from suffering

Having good heart and good mind, good action are all good for all, regardless of religion

Mind- subj so vast

what is suffering?

process that doesn’t require to be religious

wish to be happy and free from sufferings naturally abides in everyone

view

behaviour that arises from view

if view is perfect, behaviour is positive

correct view that motivates behaviour

what is correct view?

correct view= correctly understanding nature and entity of reality

wise person who wants to be happy and free from suffering= spends time understanding nature of phenomena

emptiness

we need to lock in this view: in relation to mind

the nature of mind

the mind is distorted or afflicted by delusions attachment anger etc

we grasp onto phenomena as if they were existing in themselves

all these working of mind, is called afflicted wisdom= distorted reality = sufferings to ourselves

Enquire the profound view of emptiness

Distinguish

phenomena is empty of intrinsic existence  ?

when we speak about any phenomena

it arises by way of dependence

by nature it is emptiness

at level of conventionality , all phenomena arise because they are dependently related

this is not a concept of religion

this is nature itself!

based on honest ultimate mind and not due to perception of sensory

all phenomena is impermanent

completely unreliable and deceiving , this is what destroys ourselves and all other sentient beings

what is a reliable reality: mid of enlightened and bodhicitta

completely understanding of emptiness

we rely on these undeceiving reality and a stable virtuous mind

correct view—> correct behaviour

whether in family, society, world : we use afflicted wisdom which brings the exact opposite of what we want—>deluded view, brings about more sufferings

if we adopt correct view of phenomena which  are that they do not intrinsically exist, and that all beings want to be free of suffering, this brings opposite

the basis of correct view is in us, but we don’t use it, its not even smthg we can buy

peace comes from correct view and behaviour

one needs to educated mind on this subject then we will get real happiness and real blossoming of peace and happiness

qns ourselves

how does reality exist?

is liberation from suffering achievable?

liberation and suffering has to do with the mind, not smtg outside

affliction and liberation has to do with the mind

this is the most precious thing of all

the nature of the mind-which has the potential to achieve enlightenment and bring about universal compassion and correct bahevior of non violence

if u develop qualities of mind based on wisdom of dependent origination= based on reasoning, love, compassion

recognising positive and negative states of mind

sustaining and supporting with right understanding

do not necessarily need religion for a peaceful mind

how to educate children?

supporting the development of children in framework of honest sincere open far sighted etc

bottomline:how parents show and teach children is impt

deeper connection to each other and to understand nature of reality

-so evident now is interconnection of us all in the world and so important

-more honesty more beneficial for us all int he world

-if we have a system of education and future of world depends on us and our interdependence

-not by making prayer and devotional activities but we need education

what is the benefit of having ordained nuns

  • monks and nuns learn and practice the preservation of teachings of realisation
  • renunciation
  • we have the same potential to develop the same qualities as monks and nuns

How to develop authentic faith in one’s mind?

the importance and need of faith, we want to be happy and don’t want to suffer

what is faith?

based on understanding that suffering has causes and can be eliminated

happiness has causes and can be produced

there is a path and method to bring about this

and understanding this brings joy

emotional faith is based on afflictions

pls practice practise practise

develop honesty of mind-achieve

dedicate merits

there are great beings on this planet

Khadro-La

Khadro-La

At my toughest, most helpless, I called out to Khadro-La

And I always always found something

The echo that came back today was magic

Tara organised a zoom, and seeing her, experiencing her was magic

She just had a way of opening me up, softening me up from the inside and breaking me down—in a good way.

Captured here some important things she brought up

1)emptiness and subtle understanding of dependent arising are 2 key themes

nature of mind as being clear and light

WHAT IS KEEPING US LOCKED IN SAMSARA ?

those that arise on AFFLICTIONS

WHEN WE UNDERSTAND SUBTLE DEPENDENT ARISING, WE CAN BE CLEAR OF WHAT IS GOING ON

WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND EMPTINESS AND DEPENDENT ARISING, YOU SEE BUDDHA NATURE

SEEING AS EMPTY DOESNT MEAN THEY DONT EXIST

2) FAITH OF CONVICTION TO PRACTISE

NO SENTIENT BEING WISHES FOR SUFFERINGS

We don’t want sufferings and others don’t want in the same way, we can develop this for all sentient beings

With view of emptiness as support, compassion can be broad and not one sided,

HAPPINESS IS DEPENDENT ON THE MIND-NOT HOW MUCH MATERIAL POSSESSIONS WE HAVE

3)CORRECT VIEW OF EMPTINESS, THEN OUR COMPASSION IS ONE SIDED, THEN OUR MIND BECOMES TRUTHFUL AND EXPANSIVE AND ACTIONS BECOME UNCONFUSED AND TRUTHFUL

4)TARA MANTRA

-nature of tara mantra, is the congregation of all bodhisattvas and their wisdom and knowledge and ability to benefit others

-representation and manifestation of all buddhas

-union of emptiness and compassion:

-have motivation and strong faith when reciting

-need faith not just reciting mantra

-strong faith, then blessing is powerful; no faith, no blessing at all

-make your mind vast

-unconfused mind, unmistaken, happiness will arise

-confused mind, suffering will arise

-nature of dependent arising

problems are constantly arising, pandemic situation, smtg that proves cause and effect of karma

as a world and collective community, focussing externally and neglected our home, get rid of dissatisfaction and complaining mind,

if we want to create a world that is hospitable, we want to create a host of hospitable conditions or causes or plant the seeds that fulfill these conditions

there are many methods we can rely on to create happiness, use our intelligence to save ourselves

faith in tara should be a faith based in understanding

minds becomes vast, extensive, broad

this is the true meaning of protection and refuge

keep minds happy gentle and calm

SEEING KHADRO LA is healing in itself

She inspires with her very being and presence. How can I be like her?

Just mere presence and it softens one up and opens one up. I think this is a goal I can mindfully work towards.

So inspiring

The very miracle of being

That’s Why

That’s Why

I was listening to the Dalai Lama a few days ago on FB. And I saw him speak with so much intonation conviction strength

I asked myself how he did this?

SO strong, so sure, no fear. So charismatic. No fear

I compare it against myself

I was feeling low on energy weak and breathless

I looked at him again and thought of the time I was in dharamsala

How did the Dalai Lama do that? What is he made of? What makes him so sure? What makes him laugh like that? How can I do that? How do I translate what I see onto myself ?

And before I knew it, the universe sent the reply to my heart’s echo.

Look at this , look at him.

So so so beautiful

ASK

ASK

And you shall be given.

This was a point that was covered in the 21 days Abundance programme. Deepak Chopra’s point was that there is no coincidence, all these magical events that we think are coincidences, are the universe ‘s echo back to us.

All we had to do was intend and give attention, cast our intention out to the universe, and gently patiently, the echo comes to you.

So inner work this time brought me to this mantra.

Is that the heart sutra?

I had spent some time copying the heart sutra in chinese as a practice some 20 years back, at a point of my lowest. But i havent heard it in sanskrit.

Then a while ago i saw the video and it resonated with me so much, every night when i massage qinzhi, i would sing this mantra apart from the chenrizig mantra i learnt in dharamsala.

I didnt exactly know what mantra this was. And wanted to ask Juan a few days back. Then Yin just WhatsApp to share on the Global Heart Sutra Recitation | The link to join in the recitation is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=celvLjBZumk&feature=youtu.be

I think this initiative is way too cool and how buddhism is moving along with times or how people are applying buddhism in good spirit with times and in the time of need.

The WhatsApp came along with this message, essentially a translation of the mantra. And i saw this : OM GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SVAHA

THE SUTRA OF THE HEART OF TRANSCENDENT KNOWLEDGE

Thus have I heard. Once the Blessed One was dwelling in Rajagriha at Vulture Peak mountain, together with a great gathering of the sangha of monks and a great gathering of the sangha of bodhisattvas. At that time the Blesse d One entered the samadhi that expresses the dharma called “profound illumination,” and at the same time noble Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva mahasattva, while practicing the profound prajñaparamita, saw in this way: he saw the five skandhas to be empty of nature.

Then, through the power of the Bud dha, venerable Shariputra said to noble Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva mahasattva, “How should a son or daughter of noble family train, who wishes to practice the profound prajñaparamita?”

Addressed in this way, noble Avalokit eshvara, the bodhisattva mahasattva, said to venerable Shariputra, “O Shariputra, a son or daughter of noble fami ly who wishes to practice the profound prajñaparamita should see in this way: seeing the five skandhas to be empty of nature. Form is emptiness; emptiness also is form. Emptiness is no other than form; form is no other than emptiness. In the same way, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are emptiness. Thus, Shariputra, all dharmas are emptiness. There are no characteristics. There is no birth a nd no cessation. There is no impurity and no purity. There is no decrease and no increase. Therefore, Shariputra, in emptiness, there is no form, no feeling, no perc eption, no formation, no consciousness; no eye, no ear, no nose, no tongue,no body, no mind; no appearance, no sound, no smell, no taste, no touch, no dharm as; no eye dhatu up to no mind dhatu, no dhatu of dharmas, no mind consciousness dhatu; no ignorance, no end of ignorance up to no old age and death, no end of old age andpage1image2472119840page1image2472120128page1image2472120416page1image2472120896page1image2472121184page1image2472121472page1image2472121984page1image2472122400page1image2472122688page1image2472122976page1image2472123264

death; no suffering, no origin o f suffering, no cessation of suffering, no path, no wisdom, no attainment, and no nonattainment. Therefore, Shariputra, since the bodhisattvas have no attainm ent, they abide by means of prajñaparamita. Since there is no obscuration of mind, there is no fear. They transcend falsity and attain complete nirvana. All the buddhas of the three times, by means of prajñaparamita, fully awaken to unsurpassable, true, complete enlightenment. Therefore, the great mantra of prajñaparamita, the mantra o f great insight, the unsurpassed mantra, the unequaled mantra, the mantra that calms all suffering, should be known as truth, since there is no deception. The prajñaparamita mantra is said in this way:

OM GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SVAHA Thus, Shariputra, the bodhisattva mahas attva should train in the profound prajñaparamita.”

Then the Blessed One arose from that samadhi and praised noble Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva mahasattva, saying, “Good, good, O son of noble family; thus it is, O son of noble fami ly, thus it is. One should practice the profound prajñaparamita just as you have taught and all the tathag atas will rejoice.”

When the Blessed One had said this, venerable Shariputra and noble Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva mahasattva, that whole assembly and the world with its gods, humans, asuras, and gandharvas rejoiced and praised the words o f the Blessed One.

Teachings from The Dalai Lama’s Avalokiteshvara Empowerment

Teachings from The Dalai Lama’s Avalokiteshvara Empowerment

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama conferred an Avalokiteshvara Empowerment from his residence in Dharamsala, HP, India yesterday and today.

Day 1

Teachings on Day 1.

  • to lead a life of transcendence
  • motivation is important, to be in the good for others and to work hard for your future life
  • cultivating the body, this body we have cannot help us transcend/elevate, this body has to first dissolve into emptiness
  • there is nothing that has inherent and independent existence, things exist by way of designation, whatever that arises through dependence is empty.

Nagajuna

-I m not one in aggregates,

-I m not one with aggregates

-I do not posses aggregates

Who am i?

you are not an aggregate, this appearance of aggregate you cling on to disappears and you find yourself absorbed in emptiness ——arise into deity

the self does not exist intrinsically

all phenomena is devoid of intrinsic existence

things do not and can not exist apart from appearance

Day 2

-we have been enslaved by our thoughts, selfish motives and self cherishing attitude

-It is important to generate virtuous state of mind, think of seeing other sentient beings, and for their mindful awakening, day by day, practise this and gain familiarity with it—-for the benefit of sentient beings, may I receive buddhahood, not that may i but that I will receive enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings

-reflect on emptiness

-all sufferings come from selfishness ; all happiness come from wishing others to be happy

-Cultivate Bodhicitta if you care about alleviating suffering, in bodhicitta, you feel peaceful, rested, it purifies all negativity, that is the pathway to temporary and ultimate happiness.

-From the depths of the heart, feel Bodhicitta of cherishing others more than yourself, the altruistic spirit of enlightenment

-Dependent Origination: There is nothing objectively existing, things have no external existence, there’s nothing you can pinpoint at the core. If they can exist by themselves, what need is there for interdependence? What need is there for dependent origination?Things exist by way of relation to others, things have no objective existence. If things existed, they are merely designated

-Ignorance can be overcome, they have no core

-when there is understanding of emptiness within the law of cause and effect, you won’t be captivated by extremist views

-If you hold the conviction that nothing has objective existence apart from being designated, clinging and ignorance to independent existence is shaken, so mediate on emptiness, undermine ignorance and self cherishing

Too Uncomfortable to Sleep

Too Uncomfortable to Sleep

Too uncomfortable to sleep

I made a vegan pulled pork burger , vegan mayo and a side dish of pumpkin and eggplant. Had some truffle chips and a new ingredient , cherry chilli bomb

And immediately after dinner I get horrible sensations. Thoroughly wrong.  Like a feeling of allergy or having eaten something that did not go well with me.

What was it that made it so wrong? I asked. There didnt seem to be any I can think of.

Like a headache of sorts and my energy is sucked out and I m slipping away without control.

When I swallow there’s like something at my throat and I have to breathe doubly hard. I showered and got better

Then HuaiHao and Qinzhi said they noticed I didnt look well earlier, Huaihao offered to massage me

Mom your shoulders are so hard, you should learn to relax mom , probably you carried too heavy things “

WOW

I had my hands too full just before dinner and rushed back

When I heard HuaiHao say this, I heard only—- you should learn to relax and I was like—- wow!

But now I totally see the wisdom as I put these down

Everything’s too much for me. I am still living the old ways, but my body has changed, so the old ways find themselves in a body and consciousness that ‘s different. They are at odds and can no longer work together.

YAY

Which made me realise now how powerful the fast is.

After the one week fast, the body is responding so swiftly to food. Even if vegan , the body tells me immediately when it’s not good or good for me

I tried almond milk and granola; I tried veg noodle soup and it’s ok

I did a burger and the bread had some milk

I did vegan soup the first meal I stepped out of fast, probably too much and my body didn’t like it

Its a new phase of experimenting and finding out, and I m loving it! More than this, I m grateful for this opportunity!

It shows how much work the body has done in the week I stopped eating

And it’s great in a way because in the past it would have taken me a long time to find out .

I was blocked and numbed.

But now —— reaction time is reduced I have become a better listener and responder to the body.

And I have to be ever more selective careful and mindful now with cooking and eating

I think I m adjusting to a new body

I wrote

And this was the aha moment for the day

I have done so much inner work on myself of late. I have cleaned my body.

In the past I might not know what this might mean or how this can feel, but these too-full-too-uncomfortable incidents let me know that I m at a different level

My mind my spirit my soul my energy my body

They are all different now

And the old ways of eating drinking living thinking feeling can no longer serve me

I have a new body and it is inviting me to work with it more mindfully with new practices and mindsets.

And now it is about putting into practice with each thing I do or not do, eat or not eat, how much i eat or not eat, how i eat or not eat, there’s so much to learning and experimentation ahead to work with it hear it, WOW I m excited!

In the midst of putting these thoughts together I listened to Deepak Chopra ‘s abundance program like I have for the past 18 days

And immediately I felt better

Why?

It’s a shift I heard myself say. SO obvious. I felt it.

Shifted by voice, sound, positive content or meaning in the voice or sounds,

A shift that has been so, because of the intention the voice and the goodness it carries and, because I was open to it

That’s how powerful it is

How can I be the shift then? WOW

And when shifts occur the challenges we face are automatically dissolved resolves effortlessly

That’s why I felt better

And then a friend shared that the Dalai Lama would be giving the Avalokiteshvara Empowerment today. As I watched this amazing being in front of my eyes, I just warm up from the inside, even writing it now, warmed my eyes, as if to wash and purify me further. That is his power.

And how can I be this power to move others?

I have had the chance to see The Dalai Lama and more importantly, feel him in person. His presence still comes to me now n then to embrace me, to move me——–how wonderful is that. How blessed to be able to feel moved!

And that is another lesson in gratitude and abundance . I asked the universe for inspiration for healing, and this is it.

And seeing him and feeling this way made me discover yet another idea, could it have been that my system is cleaning up to prepare for this empowerment?!

WOW

Then another one sent a link on autophagy

Tells of the process of the body cells miraculously recycling waste body cells into goodness.

That was what I did or rather, what my body was busy with in the 1 week fast that has gone by.

Isnt that a miracle? How did the body know how to do that? How did nature have this idea?

And——isnt that just what I have been learning from the Tibetan teachers of buddhism in meditation and in awareness? The leading thoughts on transformation so important in Tibetan Buddhism——- that is what our miracle bodies have been doing all this while and all we need to is to create opportunities for the body to heal.

I have never experienced “coincidences” ring so loud and clear, what i m practicing to both my body and mind, learning about transformation and learning to practice it, they are in sync, never has my body and mind worked on the same front like this before. Amazing.

You don’t have to do anything

You don’t have to do anything

Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche gave his second teaching online at 0000hrs today.

And some points which called out are :

  • You don’t have to do anything, just be—-and it reminds me of my own experience the day before during the self reiki, its almost like a chef, who has mastered all techniques of cooking and throwing the techniques away to tune in to his emotions and to cook what he feels like or to cook in response to the ingredients.
  • Perceptions in meditation, such as seeing things, eg enlightened beings or ghosts, hearing things: don’t care
  • Lockdowns experienced worldwide now, provides great opportunities for retreat, you dont have to apply for leave now to get on a retreat!
  • As you build up your experiences, texts develop different meanings
  • Everyday there is something new, try to discover yourself, learn about yourself, reflect, mediate, and to grow
  • Important thing is balance
  • Looking back at the past, when you look at great discoveries, there always is a moment of breaks, quiet, rest there is a lot of discovery, use this precious time to grow, to transform, to learn, about nature of reality
  • Set your intention before practice
  • Dedicate your practice after
  • You need panic or thought or emotion for meditation! You NEED the panic! Panic becomes the teacher
  • All these panic/thoughts/emotions can be used—-I call it inner recycling
  • If you see the river, you are not in the river. And, don’t expect the river to go away
  • The moment you are lost and you come by/to, you feel that you are so alive!
  • Open awareness or objectless mediation

Awareness is like a lamp, it lights the surroundings and itself

Similarly, awareness is like the map, it is self luminous and ruminating others

Mind is like the sky, thought/emotions is like cloud, they come, they move, they go

Awareness, our basic innate goodness is like the sky, it is pure, calm, free, always open, pollutants, clouds they cannot change the quality of the sky, no matter what, so let the clouds come, let the clouds go——you don’t have to do anything.

Awareness is there, you do not have to make it, just discover it, you can use object such as sound, to discover awareness

  • Allowing to be yourself is great kindness to yourself
  • No meditation is the best meditation
  • No mediation means= being present and don’t get lost, whatever the mind is, just be, it means= being uncontrived, be natural

You don’t have to do anything, just be.

Not doing anything is the best thing you can do

From the Dalai Lama

From the Dalai Lama

Ancient Indian tradition describes the creation, abiding and destruction of worlds over time. Among the causes of such destruction are armed conflict and disease, which seems to accord with what we are experiencing today. However, despite the enormous challenges we face, living beings, including humans, have shown a remarkable ability to survive.

No matter how difficult the situation may be, we should employ science and human ingenuity with determination and courage to overcome the problems that confront us. Faced with threats to our health and well-being, it is natural to feel anxiety and fear. Nevertheless, I take great solace in the following wise advice to examine the problems before us: If there is something to be done—do it, without any need to worry; if there’s nothing to be done, worrying about it further will not help.”

The Problem IS THE Solution

The Problem IS THE Solution

I love my teacher!

And he is here.

COVID-19 Message

There are so many interesting points that can be lifted from the video.

And the ones which call out to me most:

-Life is suffering and acceptance (of it earlier than later might make it easier for all )

-The Problem is the Solution=Transform

What an inspiration! If only we contemplated this, much earlier, much deeper and apply our life’s experiences.

-Never Give Up

-Not too tight; Not too loose

-Dedicate

Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche is one of the most important teachers I have met in my life. I remember attending one of his retreats at least 10 years ago. And when I went forward to receive blessings, I cried and cried and cried uncontrollably.

He was one of those who let me magically experience the powerful emotions of acceptance and what that can feel like.

We all know these emotions but can we feel them?

He made me feel them. Gratitude towards life and having myself. Acceptance of the past.

He distilled the essence of meditation down to one word: awareness. That is the most important thing——- not the experiences of mediation.

I come to understand this again as I have recently been working on myself. And can get sidetracked when I feel energy or talk to myself while lying down on my bed.

But Rinpoche put it in perspective and guided me again—–from afar. How wonderful how blissful how blessed to have Teacher ! And to have these little tips!

My you be well and happy Teacher and may your teachings reach all realms of the universe, just by hearing these, teachings like nectar can heal and deliver all in need.
